Promoting Community-Based Forest Monitoring (CBFM)
Summary
CBFM is a model of forest management that grants ownership to community members. It allows for community members to help collect detailed data on forests, all while providing important information for management decisions.
Global Canopy Program started their Forest Compass project to advocate for the increased use of CBFM both within the REDD+ framework and in general.
GCP has worked directly in two pilot CBFM projects in Guyana and Brazil. A whitepaper detailing this work can be found below.
